Why Are Our Books Unique?

Reading our books can improve your children’s Chinese, while making the whole process fun.

LARGE TYPE WITH PICTURE SEPARATION
The Chinese characters we use is 楷体 (kaiti) font which renders the intricate calligraphy of Chinese words clearly. The characters are also printed large enough so that kids are able to decipher the strokes.

SELECTED PINYIN HELP
Books with full hanyu pinyin tend to clutter the page and kids tend to read the hanyu pinyin instead of reading the Chinese characters.  That’s why we  minimise the hanyu pinyin to only the new vocabulary, so that kids from really focusing their attention on learning the words.

MEMORABLE CHARACTERS AND ENTERTAINING STORIES

We found that many learn Chinese books in Singapore tend to be less interesting that the English books.  So we thought, “Why can’t we create a set of Chinese readers that are just as fun and entertaining so that kids want to read them?”  Well, why not?  And so we did!

WHY IT WORKS

The books are based on the eminently successful Teach-A-Tot formula, introducing children to Chinese vocabulary in successively higher levels.

“We wanted Chinese books that are fun for kids and also based on a proven pedagogy that works. We found that out in Madam Soh’s ( 我会读) I Can Read series of books for young readers.  And we’re honoured that she was eager to write these books for us!” says Sung Lin Gun, creator of the Taoshu TV series.

“It’s great because it really builds your child’s confidence and interest as the books gradually get more and more challenging!” says Petrina Kow, producer of the Taoshu Learn Chinese Books.

As these were created specially for Singaporean parents who are keen to improve their children’s Chinese, a ‘cheatsheet’ which includes full pinyin and English translations is provided at the back for quick reference.  Make reading Chinese fun for your kids!
